The course is interdisciplinary in nature and encourages the potential for incorporating conceptual and technical approaches from a variety of sources. Students focus creative work in a range of single or multiple disciplines, including textiles, painting, print media, sculpture, jewellery and three-dimensional design, electronic arts, drawing, ceramics, fashion, photography, installation, performance and audio-visual technologies. Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesNone, Interview and folio, as required. Specific RequirementsSTAT elements considered are E and either V or Q. NoteStudents may be required to participate in field trips and/or short term internships during semester or in the mid-semester breaks. Recognition of Prior LearningApplications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Provision exists for entry to applicants who have completed a post secondary education diploma course or part of a comparable first degree program. Such applicants may be admitted with prior learning status if they can demonstrate the required skills and levels of achievement. Duration and AvailabilityThe course is of three years full-time duration or equivalent part-time study. This course is also available on-line through Open Learning Australia. Course OrganisationThe course has a common first year to introduce the basic concepts and philosophy of contemporary visual arts practice and to provide an initial experience in all of the major studio disciplines taught within the Department. In second and third year, students elect a major studio area, a visual culture unit and a visual research unit. All are encouraged to undertake units offered by other teaching areas on campus. Additional Course ExpensesStudents may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. Some units within this course may have a field component, for which costs may be incurred.
