Introduction

This course is for those with four years prior tertiary study, usually including a teacher education qualification or its equivalent. The rationale of this program is based on the demand for higher degrees that cater for teachers and educational administrators intending to enhance professional knowledge and skills without the necessity of undertaking a research dissertation or thesis. Professional students intending to undertake doctoral level study are required to complete specified preliminary doctoral unit(s).

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

For entry to the general educational studies major - four years of tertiary study, including a teacher education qualification or its equivalent. The most common background for current entry is a first degree and a teaching qualification. A four year combined education degree with another area - such as science, arts, language, health sciences, nursing, or business is equivalent. Other qualifications and backgrounds may constitute special consideration by the Dean, Department of Education. For entry to the Training and Development Major - applicants are required to hold a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts (Education) Vocational Education and Training, with a one year Bachelor of Education conversion course, Bachelor of Arts plus a Diploma of Education. Applicants would normally be expected to have at least one year of relevant professional experience in an educational or training capacity in an industry, educational or professional setting.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Alternative formal professional development experiences, such as, courses, workshops and ongoing continuing education, are considered when determining recognition of prior learning.

Duration and Availability

This course is of one year full-time or equivalent part-time study and is available through flexible delivery on and off campus, including offshore. Not all units are offered every semester and the availability of offshore study cannot be assured for all units.

Intermediate Awards I

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award, may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.
