Introduction

This course is designed to provide those who already hold a bachelors degree in occupational therapy or a graduate entry masters degree in occupational therapy with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in clinical practice to an advanced level. This is a fee-paying course that aims to graduate students who are informed, and able to critically analyse and determine best practice in their relevant occupational therapy service area.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Completion of a WFOT approved bachelors degree in occupational therapy or a graduate entry masters degree in occupational therapy, together with a minimum of one year's clinical experience. Students who have a WFOT approved diploma of occupational therapy must complete a one-semester bridging course utilising available bachelor of science or master of occupational therapy units on offer from the school of occupational therapy, during the semester students attend. Students wishing to complete the bridgingcourse via distance education may select from degree conversion units available in distance mode.

Specific Requirements

For prospective students using clinical practice for entry into clinical areas, applicants should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication. Students are required to have a current Essential First Aid Certificate within four weeks of entry into the course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one year (three trimesters) full-time study.

Course Organisation

Students will take integrated units designed to provide advanced theory and practice in occupational therapy. The trimester format will allow students who enter with a bachelors degree in occupational therapy or a graduate entry masters degree in occupational therapy to complete the course in the space of twelve months. There will be one intake each year, in January. This course requires full participation in all teaching and learning sessions. This requires that students have the ability to participate fully and are willing to act as subjects for their peer group, as well as being able to undertake those tasks required when working with people with a range of disabilities. This course does not lead to a research degree.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
