Introduction

Students are introduced to a broad range of scientific disciplines in the first year of the course. In later years, they are given the opportunity to develop their expertise in specific areas - biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics or physics. Simultaneously, they develop their ability to use state of the art computer software, and acquire an understanding of the principles of economics, environmental policy development, impact assessment and management.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

TEE Applicable Mathematics and one of TEE Biology, Chemistry or Physical Science. Those wishing to major in Chemistry or Physics should also have passed TEE Chemistry or Physics respectively in order to be able to complete the degree in the minimum time of four years.

Specific Requirements

The STAT is not accepted for entry to this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Bachelor of Science may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in the Bachelor of Science subject to approval of the course coordinator. A student who has not met the University Honours Entrance Requirements at the end of the third year will be awarded the Bachelor of Science.

Professional Recognition

Depending upon the major area of study chosen, graduates will be eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Biology, Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Institute of Geoscientists, Australian Mathematics Society or Australian Institute of Physics.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
