132110 v.3 Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering), Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)
BEng(Curtin) OR BEng(Hons)(Curtin), BSc(Curtin)
Course CRICOS Code: 041776A
Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 5 Years
Introduction
This double degree program provides graduates with a background in computer science and its application in computer systems, electrical and electronic and communication engineering. The combination of the two degrees provides graduates with a versatility which opens up a wider range of employment opportunities. On completion of the program students are awarded both the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) and Bachelor of Science (Computer Science).
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
TEE Calculus, Applicable Mathematics and Physics. Well performed candidates without one of the prerequisite subjects may be accepted and required to undertake an additional program of preparatory studies.
Specific Requirements
To satisfy professional requirements, students must complete at least 12 weeks of approved work experience associated with engineering in industry. Students may make their own arrangements for employment or seek the assistance of the University's Prospective Students Services. A current certificate of successful completion of an approved course in first aid is required before a degree will be awarded. The STAT is not accepted for entry to this course.
Note
In certain cases, the need to undertake an additional program of preparatory studies may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This course is five years full-time study. It is not available part-time. Two intakes are offered each year, in March and August. Prospective students should note that places may not always be available for the August intake.
Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree. The structure of Engineering, Science and Computing owned double degrees is such that students have the option of completing the component Engineering, Science or Computing degree in the minimum time, provided they elect to change from the double degree withinthe first two semesters of the course.
Professional Recognition
The Bachelor of Engineering meets the academic requirements of Engineers Australia for Graduate Membership. Graduates receive level one accreditation from the Australian Computing Society.
Career Opportunities
The combination of the two degrees provides graduates with a versatility which opens up a wider range of employment opportunities.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
