International nutrition. Introduction, major nutritional challenges and scope of work. Malnutrition in infants; children, adolescents and adults; micronutrient deficiencies - iron, iodine; vitamin A and zinc; nutrition transition - the effects of modernisation and urbanisation; nutritional assessment of vulnerable populations; determinants of hunger and malnutrition - the social, political, economic and environmental considerations. Nutrition in emergency situations; programmatic approaches to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition; future challenges - research and policy implications. |
