Statics - review basic concepts of equilibrium. Statical determinacy for beams and trusses. Free body diagrams. Shear force diagram, bending moment diagram and axial force diagram. Properties of areas. Mechanics of solids - principles of compatibility and superposition. Beam bending theory. Elastic and plastic section moduli. Composite beam theory. Complex frames. Deflection of beam by double integration and Macaulay's method. Deflection of beam by moment area method. Deflection of structures using strain energy. |
