Syllabus: Examination of ecotourism as a strategy for sustainable social and economic development in the Asia-Pacific region. Introduction to definitions and meanings of sustainable tourism development and examination of the recent growth of the industry related to changing lifestyle values and structural changes occurring in the economy. Then, using case studies from Australia, South-East Asia and the western Pacific, an introduction to recent ideas on participatory and sustainable forms of development.
