Introduction

This coursework masters is designed for information systems or information technology professionals who recognise the need to increase their knowledge or skills in the management and strategic application of information technology in competitive, global business environments. Combining theory, research and practice, this course incorporates a range of new concepts, methodologies and technologies aimed at supporting organisations in achieving corporative objectives with leading edge technologies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Necessary for entry into Stage I, candidates must hold a degree in a computing-related discipline from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or an equivalent qualification with a minimum course average of 60 per cent. For entry into Stage II of the course, a candidate must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology with a minimum course average of 65 per cent. No Information Technology/Information Systems industry experience is required for entry into stage II of the program. Students wishing to progress to a PhD are required to complete a 100 credit dissertation and achieve a minimum Course Weighted Average (CWA) of 70 per cent.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is four semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

The core areas studied in Stage I include - managing information systems projects and risks, business information technology management, enterprise network infrastructure, web design and architecture, data mining and advanced database management, enterprise network management and problem-solving. Optional units are offered in the areas of object-oriented design, information security management, statistical data analysis, web platform design and development. Stage II incorporates advanced coursework involving business intelligence and cyberwarfare, enterprise network security, object-oriented programming and research methods. Students may choose to undertake a research project or optional units covering strategic alignment of information systems, computer forensics, web services and platforms or new paradigms in e-business.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Masters graduates generally find employment in management and leadership roles within private and public organisations utilising information technology.
