Introduction

This professional masters program is designed for experienced information systems professionals who recognise the need to increase their knowledge or skills in the management and strategic application of information systems in competitive, intelligent, global business environments. The program combines theory and practice and incorporates a range of new concepts, methods and technologies relating to information systems management.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who have already completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems Management may apply for recognition of prior learning for up to a total of 200 credits. Waiver from specific units may be approved but will require substitution in an approved unit by the Course Coordinator.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time study or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems Management may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Course Organisation

The Master of Information Systems Management consists of 12 units of study. The core areas studied include managing information systems projects and risks, business information technology management, information security management, object-oriented design, advanced enterprise systems modelling, data mining and advanced database management, business intelligence and cyber warfare and problem-solving. Students may choose optional units from the areas of object-oriented programming, global network security, statistical data analysis, strategies for web management, strategic alignment of information systems, computer forensics, and new paradigms in e-business.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing-related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society and the British Computing Society.

Career Opportunities

Masters graduates generally find employment in management and leadership roles within private and public organisations employing information systems in a management context.
