Molecular machines and devices. Self-assembly of complex molecular architectures. Controlled orientation of molecular components. Reversibility in self-assembly processes. Implications of thermal disordering. Experimental techniques for probing the nanoscale. Electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, especially scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopies.
