Introduction to various aquaculture products and forms. Overview of world aquaculture production and fishing industries. Systematics and phylogeny. Taxonomy of commercially important aquatic species. Basic applied mathematics. Introduction to various approaches to aquaculture, extensive, semi-intensive and intensive systems. Different aquaculture systems. Principles of aquaculture site and species selection. Flow-through and pond based freshwater aquaculture systems. Establishing and maintaining an aquarium. Basic principals of animal husbandry. Regulation and licensing. Occupational safety and health as it relates to aquaculture. |
