Social and cultural anthropology in a changing world, the myth of the 'primitive isolate', nature, society and production in tribal and non industrial state societies, impact of the west upon tribal and non industrial state societies. Forms of resistance and reaction to western influence. Creation of the 'third world' and theories of 'development', peasant societies and agrarian transformation, urbanisation in the 'third world', the north/south divide and the environmental crisis.
