Introduction
Information Technology is a crucial element in today's enterprise operating in a global communications and business environment. Understanding and harnessing information technology and innovation in an enterprise is the focus of this program. This course is designed for students who already have a computing related degree who wish to up-date or enhance their skills and knowledge in the design and management of information technology and innovation. Students will learn both the practical and theoreticalaspects of information technology with the ability to problem solve and apply their knowledge in an IT environment.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.

Course Organisation
The Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology consists of eight units of study. The core areas studied includes managing information systems projects and risks, business information technology management, enterprise network infrastructure, web design and architecture, datamining and advanced database management, enterprise network management and problem solving. Students may choose optional units from the areas of object-oriented design, information security management, enterprise network security,statistical data analysis, and internet enabling technologies.

Professional Recognition
With a prior computing - related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities
Postgraduates generally find employment in supervisory roles within private and public organisations utilizing information technology, or design and development of Information Technology systems.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
