Double Degree in Asian Studies and Commerce

Introduction
This double degree course in Asian Studies and Commerce is available to students intending to combine studies in accounting, banking, economics, electronic commerce, finance, information systems, information technology, international business, marketing,property, public relations or tourism management with studies in an Asian language, culture and society. Students are invited to choose from the various programs available to combine requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce, degree with all essential requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) degree, which includes a stream in Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Japanese or Korean language. Upon successful completion of the course, students graduate with both the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) degrees.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
TEE Applicable Mathematics or Discrete Mathematics are desirable.
Specific Requirements
STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
Note
Students will normally be expected to attain a higher aggregate than that required for both single degrees.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study. A limited number of units are available in the external study mode. Language units are available in the internal mode only.
Course Organisation
Students undertake one major in accounting, banking, economics, electronic commerce, finance, information systems, information technology, international business, marketing, property, public relations, or tourism managment in combination with the Asian Studies major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.
Professional Recognition
Additional units may be taken by those students seeking to satisfy the full educational requirements for admission into CPA Australia and the ICAA. These additional units are 2844 Law (Corporation) 224, 11041 Taxation 331, and 11001 Economics (Macro) 101.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
