Introduction
This course is designed for those who need to better serve the property industry as consultants in their current employment, to make a career switch into property, or for graduates in valuation and land economy and property wishing to update their previous education.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A degree in valuation, land economy, business, commerce, urban planning, architecture, building, quantity surveying, economics, law or any other appropriate field from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or equivalent, plus a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. Professionally qualified, highly experienced non-graduates working in the property area may be granted entry at the discretion of the Head of School.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Completion of relevant studies in law and urban planning exempt studies from units in these areas but they may be required to instead undertake other units as approved after consultation with the Head of School.
Duration and Availability
The course is of one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
Because of the diverse backgrounds of students, some foundation material from economics, law and property analysis are included.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may find ready employment in middle to senior executive positions in organisations having substantial land-based assets including government departments at all tiers, real estate consulting organisations, investment houses, property trusts, banks, insurance companies, and superannuation funds. Employment might also be found in professions such as urban planning, architecture and quantity surveying.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
