Introduction

This program is designed for students who wish to increase their knowledge or skills in the planning, operations and management of information systems in global business environments. The program combines theory and practice and incorporates a range of new concepts, methods and technologies relating to information systems management.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who have already completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Systems Management may apply for recognition of prior learning for up to a total of 100 credits. No exemptions will be given, although units may be substituted at the School's discretion. Other units may be approved by the Manager, Postgraduate Programs.

Duration and Availability

The course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Certificate in Information Systems may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Course Organisation

The Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems Management consists of eight units of study. The core areas studied include managing information systems projects and risks, business information technology management, information security management, object oriented design, advanced enterprise systems modeling, datamining and advanced database management and problem solving. Students wishing to progress to a masters program in the same area will need to complete the unit on research methods. Students not wishing to progress to further studies may choose optional units from the areas of collaborative technologies, strategic logistics management and organisational behaviour.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Graduates generally find employment in information systems departments in private and public organisations.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
