This double major provides both an analytical framework and a number of practical applications for understanding interactions between parties with conflicting interest who must work together. Traditional economic theory tends to emphasise competitive behaviour between parties whereas strategic economic analysis puts emphasis on cooperative solutions between parties with conflicting interests. Such interactions are becoming an increasing focus in both the business and public environment. Examples include - the design of processes for corporate governance, the role of strategic alliances among businesses, the development of cooperative regimes for industrial relations and the pursuit of more constructive cooperation between business and government. Strategic economic analysis is increasingly employed in government, for example in the design of auctions for broadcasting spectrum to maximise the value received from bidders. It is about identifying alternatives and opportunities and analysing the merits of alternative courses of action. Graduates are eligible for Associate Professional Membership of the Economic Society of Australia (WA Branch).
