305778 v.1 Bachelor of Science (Health Information Management), Bachelor of Commerce (Information Systems)
BSc(Curtin), BCom(Curtin)
Introduction
The proliferation of electronic information systems in health has resulted in the need for Health Information Management graduates with the knowledge and skills to analyse information, design, implement and manage new systems and the ability to solve problems in existing electronic information systems. The unique and complex nature of health care delivery, requires a depth of clinical knowledge allied to a strong understanding of the inter relationships of health information creation, linkage and management. Students enrolling in this double degree gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of clinical processes, together with health information management principles and issues. The processes of planning, implementing and evaluating health and related systems are taught within a framework of confidentiality and data linkage. It allows for the simultaneous development of a sound knowledge base in information systems design, analysis and project management. This combination of skills is highly desirable for jobs in health information systems design, database and project management and in the information technology industry.
