304110 v.2 Master of Arts (Languages and Intercultural Education)

MA(Curtin)

Introduction

This research course provides an opportunity to complete an extended piece of original work under the supervision of a staff member with interest and expertise in an appropriate research area culminating in the production of a thesis making a significant contribution in the field.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree with honours or equivalent or a postgraduate or graduate diploma in a discipline relevant to a proposed research topic. Students may be required to complete a unit in research methods before being admitted into the course.

Duration and Availability

The course is by research and normally requires one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, School of Language and Intercultural Education. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This may increase the stated course duration.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note

It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research degree to receive a related Postgraduate Diploma but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission.
