Introduction
This course is designed to develop management skills, enhance strategic awareness and facilitate full contribution at senior management and director levels. It is a practical, highly effective management development program for professional managers of medium sized enterprises.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Senior managers or directors of medium sized firms for example, those employing between 50 and 200 staff. Ideally, they should hold a degree from a recognised tertiary institution and have a least two years management experience. Non-degree holders with at least five years management or executive experience are also eligible. Other applicants with technical qualifications and relevant work experience who have recently commenced management duties at an appropriate level may also apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is two semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. It is usually undertaken over three semesters on a part-time basis.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Company Management may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information in the Curtin Courses Handbook.
Course Organisation
Requirement to attend an initial residential weekend followed by approximately one day each month for a period of 12 months. In addition to attending 16 full days of workshops a further 40 hours of individual counselling by a business mentor will be required. Participants arrange mentor meetings. Following completion of the workshops, participants must complete a special business project and submit a dissertation.
Professional Recognition
Graduates may be eligible to meet the requirements leading to fill membership of the British Institute of Management.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
