126111 v.2 Graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy

GradCertOrthManTher(Curtin)

Introduction

This course has been developed to provide an alternative model of postgraduate education for qualified physiotherapists who wish to improve skills in manipulative physiotherapy and theoretical knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, but have no interest in the research component which is a central element of the existing higher degree program. It advances the clinical skills currently taught in the Master of Manipulative Therapy. The clinical unit in this program is taught through a cooperative arrangement with an external provider, Manual Concepts.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A degree or diploma entitling them to be registered to practise as physiotherapists in their own country and to gain temporary registration from the Physiotherapists Registration Board of Western Australia.

Specific Requirements

Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication. Essential learning strategies demand that all students disrobe appropriately to act as subjects for their peer group.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is offered over two semesters part-time in a mixed internal or external mode. Prospective students are advised that the clinical unit in the program requires full participation in laboratory classes where manual skills and topics such as surface anatomy are presented.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
