| Syllabus: | This unit explores key concepts and theories in ethical reasoning and prepares students to identify and apply laws governing publication that concern media professionals, including journalists and others employed in the various media streams. Students are equipped to identify, analyse and apply these laws and ethical reasoning when seeking and preparing material for publication to avoid legal liability while exploring the limits of freedom of speech. In addition, the unit explores and develops advanced skills in critical thinking on issues of professional ethics and law in journalism and the media. Students will develop a toolkit of concepts and strategies with which ethical, legal questions and dilemmas can be addressed in various contemporary cases from the media industry. |
