| Syllabus: | The National Competency Standards for the midwife inform the scope and purpose of this unit. Students undertake clinical practice experiences to develop and deepen learning related to assessment, planning, evaluation and leadership with clinical care across childbirth continuum for the mother-baby dyad. Students in this unit explore evidenced informed midwifery decision-making and practice, care and management strategies affected by complex care and mental health needs. This may include: perinatal mental health. Evidenced informed knowledge and skills for midwifery care of the mother-baby-dyad with complications across the childbirth continuum. Midwifery emergencies, neonatal resuscitation, stabilisation, transport and care of babies with special needs are learning areas in this unit. The unit develops reflective practice, evaluative thinking and critical inquiry in the development, implementation and documentation of Midwifery assessment, management and care approaches. |
