Course Overview
Master Degrees (Research) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for research, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This is a research-based higher degree that develops research skills and advances knowledge in the chosen field of study. Study at this advanced level requires the student to be an autonomous, independent learner.

It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master Degree (Research) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://research.curtin.edu.au/guides. Applicants require a Bachelor Degree with a strong academic performance and may also require relevant substantial work experience or Bachelor Honours Degree (first or second class) or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Specifically, applicants must have either: A) graduated with or qualified for the award of bachelor with First Class or Second Class Honours within the University, B) graduated with or qualified for the award of graduate diploma within the University, C) graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of bachelor within the University, with a superior performance, together with relevant and substantial work experience or D) obtained qualifications from another institution which are recognised by tertiary admission authorities in Australia and which are deemed to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, any of the qualifications prescribed in A, B or C above.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Applicants with a postgraduate diploma, relevant honours degree or equivalent qualifications and experience may be eligible for direct entry into the second year of the program.

Course Organisation
Master Degrees (Research) require students to undertake an approved research program leading to a thesis for independent examination; they may include advanced level coursework studies.
Research can be undertaken in five identified areas: activity participation and inclusive communities, enhancing capacities in children and families, healthy ageing and aged care, occupational health and technology and tertiary education. Other areas of particular interest to applicants may also be examined. Supervision is available from academic staff within the School and the University. For some students, external supervisors with relevant expertise may be selected as associate supervisors.
