| Syllabus: | This unit provides an in depth treatment of regulatory theories and models, including statutory regulation and licensing, economic regulation and self regulatory schemes. Students are introduced to both principles-based regulation and outcomes-based or ‘compliance-oriented’ regulatory approaches. 'Responsive regulation' and the regulatory pyramid are also considered as are movements towards deregulation and / or self regulation and the problem of regulatory capture. International approaches to regulation are also discussed. Students will then undertake case studies of regulation in practice. |
