UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline.
Syllabus: Vector analysis: scalar and vector fields, vector operators, line, surface and volume integrals, and differential operators. Coordinate systems: Cartesian, circular cylindrical and spherical, and transformation between coordinate systems. Electrostatic field: Coulombs' law, electric field intensity, electric flux density, Gauss' law, electrostatic energy and potential, capacitors, Laplace's and Poisson's equations. Magnetostatic field: magnetic flux density, magnetic force, Stokes' theorem and Ampere's circuital law, boundary conditions. Time varying fields: displacement current, Faraday's law, inductance and Maxwell's equations.
