This course provides an advanced professional qualification for graduates in engineering or applied science disciplines (not usually for graduate chemical engineers). Chemical engineering graduates, especially those with honours, should consider enrolling in the Master of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) by research.
A recognised degree in engineering or applied science at honours level or a recognised degree in engineering or applied science without honours but with relevant experience. Such candidates will be accepted at the discretion of the Head of Department. Candidates with an appropriate pass degree can be accepted at the discretion of the Head of Department, but will be required to complete up to 16 full units over one and a half years of full-time study (or part-time equivalent). Transfer from the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering to this course is allowable subject to the approval of the Head of Department.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. Part-time students are required to complete the course within three calendar years of initial enrolment. Each student will be advised of their individual study plan, whichwill be subject to the availability and sequencing of units within the program. Two intakes are offered each year in March and August.
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.
Postgraduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering
Units taken will depend upon availability within a particular year, and student enrolment is subject to the approval of the study plan by the Head of Department. The research project may be studied in the summer break and could reduce the course duration to one year.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
