This honours course is designed to cater for a diversity of approaches, ranging from that of the historian to those of the museum curator or art critic. It provides the opportunity for suitably qualified students to undertake a dissertation or project-based program in a branch of heritage studies appropriate to their interests and for which the University can provide expert supervision. It also emphasises independent research and the analysis of advanced problems in the theory and practice of a specific branch of heritage studies, or in the multidisciplinary approach to an appropriate topic or issue.
Stream A is open to those students who have completed a Bachelor of Arts (Cultural Heritage) at Curtin, with a course weighted average of 65 per cent or more in all but two of the units comprising the second and third years of the course. Stream B is open to those students who have completed a Bachelor Degree either at Curtin or at another university, but not in Cultural Heritage, with a course weighted average of 65 percent or more in all but two of the units comprising the second and third years of the course.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.
The course requires the completion of a dissertation or practical project, progress of which will be monitored through regular discussion with the supervisor and through seminars at an appropriate graduate studies forum.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
