Course Overview
Master Degrees (Research) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for research, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This research course provides the opportunity for students to develop research and analytical skills and specialised knowledge in a field of public health and apply these to one of the many areas of interests in either an applied or research application.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.
Course Overview Note
It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research course to receive the related Postgraduate Diploma but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master Degree (Research) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://research.curtin.edu.au/postgraduate-research/future-research-students/entry-requirements/. Applicants require a Bachelor Degree with a strong academic performance and may also require relevant substantial work experience or Bachelor Honours Degree (first or second class) or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Specifically, applicants require either an honours degree in a related discipline (eg public health, health sciences) or one of several graduate diplomas offered within the Faculty of Health Sciences. Degrees that are equivalent from other recognised tertiary education institutions are also accepted. There is a further requirement that applicants must demonstrate evidence of high performance (course weighted average of 70 per cent) combined with a background in research methodology. Applicants without this requirement may be required to enrol in additional units as bridging units.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Further information can be found at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au/non-school-leavers/rpl.cfm

Graduates may qualify for entry to Doctoral degrees. For further details, see the Graduate Research School website http://research.curtin.edu.au/postgraduate-research/future-research-students/entry-requirements/
Specific Course Completion Details
