| Syllabus: | This unit is organised in two modules. The Literacy module examines Literacy as a dynamic, evolving, social and historical construction, rather than being represented as a fixed body of skills. The module approaches the teaching of Literacies through a social and cultural analysis and a theoretical understanding of how knowledge is demonstrated. This module focuses on developing understandings about multimodal multi-literacies and the relationship between language and learning. The Numeracy module addresses the development and application of critical numeracy skills which are essential in today’s information-rich world. It focuses on identifying numeracy requirements for developing a fuller understanding of key concepts in learning areas other than Mathematics. This is accomplished by developing an awareness of opportunities for the application of critical numeracy skills across the curriculum. |
