| Syllabus: | In this unit, students learn to elicit information, diagnose and manage both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically a range of common conditions presenting in community pharmacy. Students will also learn about the pharmacology of the medications used in the management of these conditions.This unit comprises 5 modules. Module 1: Common gastrointestinal (GI) disorders including constipation, diarrhoea, reflux and indigestion, nausea and vomiting, and GI parasite infestations. Module 2: Acute pain and inflammation, e.g. musculoskeletal, headache and migraine. Module 3: Allergy, common cold, flu and cough. Module 4: Dermatitis, acne, topical mycoses, dry skin conditions, seborrheic dermatitis, head lice, scabies, oral and vaginal thrush, bites and stings. Module 5: Ear and eye conditions including dry eyes, bacterial/viral/allergic conjunctivitis, ear wax compaction, foreign particle in the eye and ear (first aid), and otitis externa. |
