| Syllabus: | Work Based Project (WBP) is the final core unit and capstone experience of the EMPA. It bridges classroom and practice as students undertake an applied research project on a policy or management topic of current importance to public organisations. WBP requires students to draw together and apply the knowledge and research skills they have developed and to reflect on their professional development as a result of the EMPA. This is designed to replicate key aspects of the government workplace environment, where achieving policy goals often depends on successfully navigating complex working relationships with others. WBP is a self-directed subject applying project based learning principles that place importance on project design processes and highlight group dynamics. It begins with a half day Introductory Workshop as orientation. Students are then supported in their research processes by a peer team, a project advisor, an agency sponsor and the WBP e-learning site. It concludes with a two day Capstone Residential during which team oral presentations are delivered and assessed. Teams spanning jurisdictions and work backgrounds are self-managed and students are responsible for developing strategies to meet the challenges of working collaboratively. |
