Course Overview
Master Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
Specifically, the Master of Science (Clinical) aims to develop graduates who possess a combination of knowledge and research skills applicable to industry. The majors in this course are designed to allow specialisation in various disciplines including Nursing, Midwifery, International Health, Clinical Leadership, Clinical Nursing, and Diabetes and are suitable for those who wish to extend their existing knowledge of a discipline. Students enrol in a major for the course duration and will graduate with an award title related to that major. See individual majors for specific information.

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master Degree (Coursework) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Subject to the duration of the course applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.

Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Specifically, in order to support applications for credit for recognised learning, students are required to submit a professional portfolio detailing evidence of accomplishments.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course:
Graduate Diploma in Clinical Leadership; Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership Graduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing; Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing Graduate Diploma in Diabetes; Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Graduate Diploma in International Health; Graduate Certificate in International Health Graduate Diploma in Midwifery Graduate Diploma in Nursing; Graduate Certificate in Nursing The intermediate award is dependent on the enrolled major.

Course Organisation
Master Degrees (Coursework) contain a series of units in a specialised area of study which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may also contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply discipline knowledge, principles and concepts in accordance with relevant practice codes, standards and legislation
2. apply critical thinking and reflective practice to clinical practice to generate innovative solutions
3. access, evaluate and synthesise information relevant to clinical leadership and the promotion of optimal outcomes for clients
4. communicate effectively and work collaboratively with clients, carers, families, communities and the interdisciplinary health care team
5. utilise technology safely and appropriately for the diagnosis and management of clients
6. participate in research and critically appraise research findings and incorporate evidence based knowledge into clinical practice
7. relate policy, practices and standards to international trends
8. demonstrate cultural competence in the care of all clients, families and communities
9. demonstrate professional, legal and ethical accountability within the scope of practice for safe health care delivery
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is three semesters’ full-time study or equivalent part-time study. Clinical Leadership Major (MSc Clinical) is offered via Curtin Singapore only The following specialist streams within Clinical Nursing Major (MSc Clinical) are offered via Curtin Singapore only; Plastics and Burns Practice and Wound, Ostomy and Continence Practice. The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Practice Stream is currently offered via Curtin Singapore. It is proposed that this Stream will be offered to Curtin Bentley from Semester 1, 2016. This Stream is offered part-time due to concurrent employment requirements relevant to this discipline. The Midwifery Major is offered part-time due to the concurrent employment requirements relevant to this discipline. It is proposed that this Major will offered in Semester 2, 2016. It is proposed that the following Streams within Clinical Nursing Major (MSc Clinical) will be available to students in 2017: Perioperative Nursing Stream, and Acute Care Nursing Stream.
