Syllabus: Organometallic chemistry: bonding, aromatic ligands, metal and carbon compounds. Chemistry of the d-block elements and their compounds: industrial and commercial applications. Coordination compounds and field theory. UV visible spectra and magnetic properties. Consequences of crystal field splitting. Laboratory work: solution chemistry, preparation and characterisation of a coordination compound.
