Syllabus: This unit covers the basic principles of extractive metallurgy, both hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy, and their applications to the production of metals and minerals particularly those that are of economic importance to Australia. These include iron, gold, copper, nickel, alumina/aluminium, mineral sands, lead, zinc, diamonds and tin/tantalum and silicon.
