Syllabus: Seismic waves in a homogenous medium. Plane and spherical waves. Homogeneous and evanescent plane waves. Wave equation for P-SV and SH waves. Boundary conditions. Reflection at a fluid-fluid interface. Reflection at a free surface. Reflection at solid-solid interface. Zoeppritz equations. Waves in horizontally layered media. Reflectivity method. Principles of AVO analysis. Practical elements of AVO and AVA analysis at a single interface. Well tie. Waveform inversion.
