Syllabus: The structure and functions of the immune system. Antigens and antibodies. Lymphocyte physiology. Immune responses. Cell membrane antigen systems. The complement system. Histocompatibility and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Antigen-antibody reactions including immunodiffusion in gels. Immunoassays: principles, applications and data reduction. Western blotting. Monoclonal antibodies.
