Syllabus: A central theme for the unit is to investigate the presence and effects of pollutants in aquatic ecosystems at different levels of biological organisation. The unit is focussed on fish toxicology but algal toxicology as well as invertebrate toxicology will be covered. The history of toxicology will firstly be reviewed, followed by a description of contaminant types. Laboratory toxicity testing and field ecotoxicology will be discussed. Finally, global movement of contaminants will be studied. Case studies will be presented throughout the semester.
