Introduction

This professional master program is designed for business information systems professionals who recognise the need to increase their knowledge or skills in the management and strategic application of information systems in competitive, intelligent, global business environments. The program combines theory and practice and incorporates a range of new concepts, methods and technologies relating to information systems management.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A high course average in the Graduate Diploma in Information Systems or computing related higher degree, or a high course average in an undergraduate degree either in a non-information systems, information technology or computing-related discipline. Students wishing to undertake a PhD at a later stage should enrol in the Master of Philsophy (Information Systems).

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who have already completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems Management may apply for recognition of prior learning to a total of 200 credits. Waiver from specific units may be approved, but will require substitution in an approved unit by the Course Coordinator.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards 1

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:

Graduate Diploma in Information Systems.

Course Organisation

This course consists of 12 units of study. The core areas studied include: managing information systems projects and risks, business information, technology management, strategic information systems, knowledge management and intelligent systems, object oriented development, advanced problem solving, database management, information systems implementation, and technological infrastructure.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership to the Australian Computer Society and the British Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Master graduates generally find employment in management and leadership roles within private and public organisations employing information systems in a management context.
