Syllabus: | This unit is designed to further theoretical knowledge and practical skills in medical microbiology, particularly as undertaken for the diagnosis of infectious disease, but also for research in associated fields. Medically significant bacteria: their pathogenesis and laboratory features. Fungi of medical significance: their classification, laboratory detection, isolation, identification and treatment of infection. Parasites of human significance: their classification, epidemiology, diseases caused and laboratory detection. Virus structure and function, viral infections and their laboratory diagnosis. |
