Syllabus: Introduction to the basic principles of genetics, with a molecular emphasis. Classical genetics: Mendelian patterns of inheritance and genetic crosses. Chromosomal basis of heredity: mitosis and meiosis, recombination, sex chromosomes and chromosome abnormalities. Chemical nature of the gene, genetic code, mutation and polymorphism. Molecular basis of inherited genetic diseases and cancer. Recombinant DNA technology in disease diagnosis.
