This course is open to all health professionals and others who have experience in change management and technology adoption. It aims to develop a critical understanding of health informatics with a particular focus on how this diverse and emerging discipline is instrumental in achieving paradigm shifts in health systems. Course graduates will develop competencies in change management, socio-technical methodologies and technology adoption in conjunction with a practical understanding of applying these in diverse areas of the health system.
A basic qualification at degree level or its equivalent level in one of the professions appropriate to the proposed area of study. Applicants without qualifications and work experience may be required to undertake bridging units prior to admission.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are encouraged from applicants and are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee-paying course is six months full time or equivalent part time study. Where possible, classes are to be conducted in the late afternoon or evening and many of the units are available by distance education and/or WebCT (online learning).
Graduates generally find employment within the public and private health sectors. There are also increasing opportunities for graduates to work with consulting companies and within the information and communication technologies sectors.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
