Introduction

Designed for those seeking the skills to conduct coaching and/or mentoring in the workplace or with individuals at a personal level. Coaching assists people to set goals and to achieve them and this course provides the theory and skills to assist with this process. It encourages professional and personal development and the acquisition of skills that are relevant to the practice of coaching and mentoring.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Admission to this award program will typically require the satisfactory completion of a degree or a diploma course or its equivalent. All applicants will need to complete a Curtin application for admission and enrolment form and provide a recent curriculum vitae including relevant work experience. Applicants should also include two referee reports, a certified copy of previous tertiary or other relevant qualifications, a written statement regarding why you wish to enrol in the course (no more than 500 words) and attend an interview. Non standard applications will be considered on merit.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are encouraged from applicants and are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. Units are mixed mode delivery and include blocks and external studies. Entry into this course is available at the commencement of each year.

Course Organisation

A combination of coursework and practicum units. Some units are delivered by distance, some in blocks and others on a weekly basis. The sequence of study appropriate to individual needs is determined in consultation with the course co-ordinator.

Career Opportunities

It is expected that graduates will already be employed and will use the skills acquired in their current profession, however some graduates may set up their own consultancy as life and/or executive coaches.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.

Special Note

The School of Psychology previously offered a Graduate Diploma in Coaching which shared some units with the Graduate Diploma in Counselling. Approved course changes for the Graduate Diploma in Coaching have re-structured the course to share more units with the Graduate Diploma in Counselling. The restructure of the program requires a transition period for those students enrolled in the current program. Please make an appointment with Josephine Hudson, Program Coordinator to discuss your individual program regarding re-enrolment for 2008.
