Introduction

This course allows disciplinary and interdisciplinary offerings in the areas of: Creative Writing, the theoretical base and practices of creative writing; Literary and Cultural Studies, how literary texts articulate cultural values and contemporary cultural theories; Professional Writing and Publishing, professional communicators in a wide range of fields and the meanings these have in cultures, skills, roles and contexts of publishing; and Performance Studies, the practice, history and theory of theatre.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

English course, TEE English or English Literature.

STAT elements considered are E and V.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is three years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

The course structure enables the combination of a variety of major and minor sequences relevant to a wide range of employment opportunities and to further study. The following discipline majors are available: Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, Performance Studies, Professional Writing and Publishing. Students select one or two majors, one of which must be a discipline major. Students may undertake up to six units from outside the Department of Communication and Cultural Studies. Those studying majors outside of the Department may also, with approval, undertake an additional two units. Any units undertaken outside the Department must, in addition to the approval of the area teaching the unit, also be approved by the Department.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
