Introduction

This course provides skills and knowledge in Internet practice, and an understanding of the growth, uses, future development and application of the Internet. It is designed to complement existing knowledge and is a general qualification studied in a way that best suits existing needs and priorities. Creative overlap between current employment and study is possible.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree in any field of study from a recognised tertiary education institution.

Note

Alternative pathways are available for mature age students. In exceptional cases substantial, relevant work experience may allow for entry for applicants without a bachelor degree. In this case, no recognition of prior learning will be granted.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Students whose prior learning is recognised will, except in exceptional cases, still be required to complete 100 credit points to obtain the graduate certificate but willbe permitted to study alternative units to those for which they have been granted recognition of prior learning.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study through flexible delivery using Internet technologies, including additional class contact for on-campus students. Class contact is mandatory for international students in Australia.

Course Organisation

Students study four general units developing their broad skills and understandings of the Internet. Learning takes place through a mix of individual study, using materials provided by Curtin in electronic or print form, and group collaboration and communication. Active student participation and immersion in the Internet environment is emphasised. Students may be permitted to transfer from this course to the Graduate Diploma or Master of Internet Studies to continue studies at a more advanced level and with a greater degree of specialisation.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
