Syllabus: |
Wave and vibrations syllabus: review of simple harmonic motion, damped simple harmonic motion, non-linear systems, forced oscillations, transient and steady state terms, coupled oscillations, normal modes of vibration, transverse waves, reflection and transmission coefficients and longitudinal waves. Classical mechanics syllabus: formalisms in classical mechanics, introduction to lagrangian mechanics and applications to an oscillatory system, motion under central forces, applications, planetary and satellite orbits, Rutherford scattering, rigid body mechanics, the inertia tensor, linear, non-linear and chaotic oscillations and phase space representations. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
