Syllabus:

An introduction to surface mining methods. Open-pit mining - mine development data, pit layouts, mine operations, productivity and cost factors, haul road design and construction, grade control and stockpiles, monitoring and control of operations and heap leaching. Strip mining - resource estimates, stripping methods, mine development, productivity and cost factors, multiple seam mining and reclamation. Alluvial mining - hydraulicking, dredging, applications and tailings disposal. Mine water and its control. Mine safety and regulations and environmental management.
