The course develops students' awareness in dealing with management issues, marketing and the strategic planning of a wine business for domestic wine consumption and exportation. The major disciplines of viticulture and wine business management are integrated. It is aimed at people employed in the wine industry requiring extended knowledge in the wine marketing and management functions of the wine producer.
A bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. Applicants employed for a minimum of three years by a wine producer in a management function may apply on the basis of prior learning.
There is a mandatory residential component for all students. Students undertaking electives in sensory evaluation, viticulture or grape and wine technology are required to attend residential workshops in Perth, Western Australia.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study.
The principles of grape and wine production. An introduction to managerial accounting and finance applied to wine business enterprises, resource management practiced in the wine industry, and key issues in vineyard business management. Business-to-business marketing, market segmentation, market research, strategic marketing, processes of business and marketing planning and preparation of a business plan for a product or whole business.
Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science.
Graduates will find employment with industries associated with the supply chain of the viticultural industry, particularly in wine industries.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
