Syllabus: |
Pharmacy and pharmacology - basic mechanisms of drug action, pharmacokinetics, drugs, dosage and toxicity, drugs and receptors, agonists and antagonists, routes of administration, biotransformation and excretion, factors affecting responses to drugs, pharmacogenetics, immunopharmacology, drug tolerance and drug interaction. Drugs - acting on the nervous system, affecting the heart, used to treat high blood pressure, allergies, fever, inflammation and pain. Drugs affecting behaviour, sedative and anti-anxiety drugs, anti-psychotic and anti-depressant drugs. Recreational drugs including alcohol, cannabis and ecstasy. |
